World of Warcraft: Forever keeps the nine original classes (Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock and Druid), each with three talent trees: 27 specializations in all. Six race and class combinations are new, among them the Undead Paladin and the Dwarf Shaman, and the new Skyborne race adds ten more, so both factions can now play all nine classes. Here is each class at a glance, from Blizzard's announcements and the beta client (build 1.60.1.70009), with a link to its full guide.

The nine classes at a glance

"(new)" marks the six new pairings for the original races.

Both factions can play every class

WoW Forever counts 56 race and class combinations, 28 per faction, against 40 in Classic: the Horde gets Paladins through the Undead, the Alliance Shamans through the Dwarves.

The Skyborne are one race split in two, the side chosen at creation: Horde Windshaper Skyborne can be Shamans, Alliance High Order Skyborne Mages, and both Warriors, Hunters, Rogues or Druids. The race needs the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a bigger upgrade; our race and class combinations guide has the full tables.

Old talents, now on the trainer

Talents that granted key class buffs are now baseline, Blizzard says, and the beta client moves a few more to the trainer:

  • Warrior: Tactical Mastery (level 14).
  • Paladin: Blessing of Kings (20), with Consecration baseline from the same level.
  • Hunter: Aimed Shot (20).
  • Priest: Divine Spirit (30) and Lightwell (40), plus Fear Ward and Devouring Plague (20), once Dwarf- and Undead-only.
  • Druid: Nature's Grasp (10) and Omen of Clarity (20), while Improved Mark of the Wild becomes baseline.

No Rogue or Mage talent becomes a trainer spell.

A 16-point talent in every tree

The trees keep their Classic shape: the same rows, 51 points from level 10 to 60, and one-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points. Forever adds a fourth milestone at 16 points in all 27 trees. Six Classic Era capstones drop to it (Trueshot Aura, Premeditation, Stormstrike, Mana Tide Totem, Conflagrate and Swiftmend), and new talents join them, like Spearing Strike, Summon Hawk and Hot Streak.

The 31-point row changes too. Mortal Strike, Bestial Wrath, Arcane Power and Moonkin Form stay; Lava Burst, Riptide, Wild Growth and Berserk come from later expansions; Light's Vigil, Twist of Light, Rage of the Farseer and Sniper Shot are new names. Our talent guide lists both rows for every specialization.

One hit chance, one critical strike chance

Blizzard's Deep Dive recap merges spell, melee and ranged hit chance into one stat, and the three critical strike chances into another. Blizzard says this helps hybrid specializations such as Retribution Paladins and Enhancement Shamans, and lets Warriors, Hunters and Rogues make Taunts, Traps and Poisons more reliable. Their trees follow suit: Retribution's Champion of the Light turns up to 100% of Intellect into spell damage and healing, Enhancement's Mental Dexterity 100% into Attack Power.

Planning a build

Our talent planner has all 27 trees with the client's milestones and ranks, and during the beta a respec costs 1 silver if you haven't reset recently. These are beta values: Blizzard is still tuning the classes build by build ahead of the November 4 launch.
