How the plan is made

The cheapest plan from 1 to 300, computed from the profession’s 167 recipes in the WoW Forever beta client: 18 steps, about 625 crafts. Change the start, keep or leave out recipes learned from an item, or set one aside: the plan follows.

Playing WoW Classic? This plan is worked out from WoW Forever’s recipes (build 1.60.1.70124), and Forever changed some of them: its skill colours and the recipes that raise the skill are not always Classic’s, so the steps may differ there.

While a recipe is orange, every craft raises the skill. From yellow to grey, the odds fall in a straight line, from certain to none: Classic’s rule, which the plan assumes for WoW Forever too.

The client doesn’t say at which skill trainers teach a recipe, so the plan counts trainer recipes from the skill where they turn yellow. Trainers usually teach them earlier, and an orange recipe raises the skill every time: the plan’s counts are a ceiling.

Reagents are weighed by their vendor price: exact for what vendors sell, like vials and thread, a stand-in for what you gather, and fifty times as much for what a recipe on a cooldown makes, like Mooncloth. So the plan saves reagents, not gold at the auction house.

Left out: 0 recipes on a cooldown, 2 recipe items tied to a reputation or a holiday, and 32 recipes of a specialization or taught by a character rather than a trainer.

Where a recipe item comes from, a vendor, a drop or a quest, isn’t in the game’s files. By default the plan only uses one where no other recipe raises the skill at least one time in three; check before you count on one, and set it aside if you can’t get it.

Making a reagent, like a bolt of cloth, raises the skill too. The plan doesn’t count those points, so you’ll get there a little sooner.
