Yes, WoW Forever has addons, but not your Classic ones: it runs on modern World of Warcraft's addon interface, the one built for Midnight, so only addons rebuilt for Forever load. As of October 7, in the beta, Questie, Details!, Deadly Boss Mods, Leatrix Plus, Auctionator, TomTom and Bartender4 have Forever versions, and WeakAuras does not. Here is each one's status with its date, where the files go, and what the game now does without an addon.

Why your Classic addons don't load

A Blizzard representative wrote on the WoW UI Discord that "WoW Forever shares Mainline WoW's UI architecture, including the vast majority of APIs available in 12.1.5", the Midnight patch, as Wowhead and Icy Veins reported. The developers gave the same answer in their live Q&A of September 17: Forever uses the modern addon interface, not Classic's.

Two things follow:

  • A different interface number. An addon's .toc file says which client it was made for. Questie's file for Forever reads ## Interface: 16001, where Classic Era addons say 11509. The game lists an addon made for another client as out of date, and its code expects functions Forever doesn't have.
  • Midnight's combat rules. Since Midnight, an addon can display what happens in combat but cannot read it to make decisions: Blizzard's game director Ion Hazzikostas calls these "secret values" that addons can show "but not 'known'" (November 13, 2025). Quest, map, bag, auction house and action bar addons port easily; addons that watched your buffs and cooldowns to warn you or suggest a rotation cannot work the way they did.

The addons with a Forever version

Status as of October 7, 2026, from each author's own release page:

Addon What it does Forever status Where
Questie Quest markers on the map and quest log Official support since 12.0.1 (September 25); latest 12.0.4 (October 6) GitHub, CurseForge
Details! Damage and healing meter Forever work since September 24; latest file October 6 CurseForge
Deadly Boss Mods Boss timers and warnings Lists Forever since 12.1.10 (September 19, "Forever prep"); latest 12.1.12 (September 29) CurseForge, GitHub
Leatrix Plus Quality-of-life options Separate "-forever" files; latest 1.60.12-forever (October 5) CurseForge
Auctionator Auction house search and prices Lists Forever; latest 340 (October 2) CurseForge
TomTom Coordinates and waypoint arrow Lists Forever; latest v4.3.12 (October 6) CurseForge
Bartender4 Action bars Lists Forever; latest 4.18.3.1 (October 2) CurseForge
WeakAuras Custom alerts and displays No Forever version: the latest, 5.22.0 (September 5), does not list it GitHub

Questie's own team supports Forever, so there is no need for a separate port. Details! has a Forever build, though the game now has a damage meter of its own (below). Deadly Boss Mods' changelog calls its first Forever work "Forever prep": check that your dungeon has its timers before you count on them.

WeakAuras is the big gap. Its authors have published nothing for Forever, and the combat rules above stop any aura that reads your cooldowns or buffs to decide what to show. Projects with WeakAuras in their name exist on CurseForge, but they are not from the WeakAuras team.

Where to download and how to install

  1. Take the file made for Forever. On CurseForge, filter a project's files by game version 1.60.1, Forever's beta client, or take the file whose name says forever (Leatrix Plus: "1.60.12-forever"). A project's main download button may give you another client's file.
  2. Find the beta's folder. The beta installs in World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\, beside your other WoW clients. Addons go in World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns\; create the AddOns folder if it isn't there.
  3. Unzip into AddOns. Each addon's folder, the one with its .toc file, sits directly inside AddOns. Some downloads hold several folders: copy them all.
  4. Turn them on. At the character screen, open AddOns and tick them. If one says out of date, its .toc names another client; type /dump select(4, GetBuildInfo()) in the game to see the number your client expects (16001 in the beta).

Blizzard hasn't said which folder the full game will use from November 4.

Addon settings that reset in the beta

From the beta's first day, players have reported on Blizzard's forums that addon and interface settings don't survive a full restart (September 18). Blizzard hasn't answered there as of October 7, and players disagree on whether later beta builds fixed it.

Before you test it, copy the WTF folder in _classic_beta_. Then change one setting, quit the game, start it again and see whether it stayed. Some players use third-party tools that rewrite addon files to work around the problem: they change files in your game folder, so keep that copy.

What Forever does without an addon

  • A damage meter: built into the game, it tracks damage done, healing, interrupts and avoidable damage taken (Wowhead's guide, September 22).
  • The Cooldown Manager: in the beta since September 24, it gathers your key cooldowns and buffs in one place you can move. Blizzard's development notes say it is off by default, in the gameplay options; it supports the Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior and Warlock, and the Rogue and racial abilities since October 1.

For what addons and old websites used to do, our tools have Forever's own data:

  • Our talent calculator knows Forever's talent trees and their 16-point talents, which Classic talent addons don't.
  • Our BiS lists give the best gear for each specialization.
  • Our item database shows every item's tooltip with Forever's stats.
  • Our blue tracker gathers Blizzard's posts, maintenance and known issues among them, to check when an addon breaks after a beta update.

The beta's other changes are in our beta patch notes.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use addons in WoW Forever?

Yes, but only addons updated for Forever. The game runs on modern World of Warcraft's addon interface, with Midnight's combat rules, so Classic Era addons don't load as they are.

Do Classic Era addons work in WoW Forever?

No. They are made for Classic's interface 11509, while Forever uses interface 16001 and the modern API: you need each addon's Forever version, such as those of Questie, Details! or Leatrix Plus.

Is WeakAuras available for WoW Forever?

Not officially as of October 7: its latest version, 5.22.0 of September 5, does not list Forever. Midnight's combat rules also stop auras that read your cooldowns or buffs to decide what to show.

Where is the WoW Forever addons folder?

In the beta it is World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns; create the AddOns folder if it isn't there. Blizzard hasn't said which folder the full game will use on November 4.

Does WoW Forever have a built-in damage meter?

Yes. The game has its own damage meter, and since September 24 the beta has a Cooldown Manager too, off by default in the gameplay options.

Why do my addon settings reset in the WoW Forever beta?

Players have reported since September 18 that settings don't survive a full restart, and Blizzard hasn't answered as of October 7. Copy your WTF folder before you test a setting.
