WoW Forever will have a Roleplay-PvP ruleset at launch. Blizzard announced it on October 22, in a post by Aggrend on the official forums, after players asked for it: the game opens on November 4 with four rulesets instead of three, Hardcore still coming after launch, and Blizzard said it was working to let you pick Roleplay-PvP for Early Name Reservation from October 27.
What Blizzard said
In a recent episode of the WoW: Forever podcast, the developers had shared their concerns about a Roleplay-PvP ruleset, while saying they were still discussing it and watching player feedback. Aggrend's post settles it: "Over the last few days, we've carefully examined what it would take to add it to WoW Forever and decided to go for it. We will add a Roleplay-PVP Ruleset for launch on November 4."
The reservation was not promised: "We're also working hard to make it so that you can select the Roleplay-PvP ruleset and reserve names there next week when our Name Reservation period begins on Tuesday, October 27."
Five rulesets, four at launch
| Ruleset | What sets it apart | Available |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Fighting another player takes mutual consent | At launch |
| PvP | The other faction can attack you almost anywhere in contested territory | At launch |
| Roleplaying | Strict naming conventions and behavior rules | At launch |
| Roleplay-PvP | Roleplaying's rules, with PvP's danger | At launch, announced October 22 |
| Hardcore | Death is permanent | After launch |
The beta client already holds its description: "This ruleset has strict naming conventions and behavior rules for players interested in immersing themselves as a character in a fantasy-based world. It also allows you to focus on player versus player combat; you are almost always at risk of being attacked by opposing players."
