Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 has 23 pottery sherds, each with its own picture to put on a Decorated Pot. Twenty come from archaeology, brushing suspicious sand or gravel at five kinds of site, and three sit on pots already placed in Trial Chambers. Here is where every sherd comes from and how often, read from the game's loot tables and structure files.

How archaeology works

Suspicious Sand and Suspicious Gravel look almost like their ordinary blocks. Use a Brush on one and it slowly gives up one item from its site's loot table: a sherd, or something else such as coal or an emerald. Each block gives a single roll, so the chances below are per block brushed. Four bricks or sherds in a diamond on a crafting table make a Decorated Pot, with each sherd's picture on one of its sides.

Trail Ruins hold the most, seven, but only in the blocks that use the ruins' rare loot, which also hides four armor trims and the Relic disc. Desert Wells give the best odds, a one-in-four chance per block for each of their two sherds.

The three Trial Chambers sherds

Flow Pottery Sherd, Guster Pottery Sherd and Scrape Pottery Sherd are in no loot table: the game's Trial Chambers pieces place Decorated Pots already made with them, one pot design for each. Break such a pot with a tool, a sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe, trident or mace, and it shatters into its sherds; broken by hand, it drops whole with its design.

The Brush, the Decorated Pot and every other recipe are in our crafting database. Trail Ruins are also where four smithing templates hide, as our armor trims guide shows, and Relic is one of the rarer finds in our music discs guide.
