Rockstar has shown GTA 6 in two trailers and one long video: Trailer 1 in December 2023, Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025, and "An Extended Look", which premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026. That last one, nearly 27 minutes of in-game footage captured on PlayStation 5, is the first long look at gameplay, with story missions, side activities and switching between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

Trailer 1: welcome to Leonida
Set to Tom Petty's "Love Is A Long Road", the first trailer announced the setting: in Rockstar's words, GTA VI "heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond". It promised a 2025 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; the date has since moved to November 19, 2026, as our release date guide explains.
Trailer 2: Jason, Lucia and the story
Trailer 2, set to The Pointer Sisters' "Hot Together", was captured in-game on a PS5, in equal parts gameplay and cutscenes. It put the story up front: Jason and Lucia "have always known the deck is stacked against them", and when an easy score goes wrong, they land in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.
Rockstar's official site fills in the leads. Jason grew up around grifters, served in the Army and now works for drug runners in the Keys. Lucia landed in the Leonida Penitentiary fighting for her family, and only luck got her out. The site also profiles Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder, and names six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga.
Rockstar premiered it on Netflix, then posted it on YouTube and the GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET the same day. Game Informer describes a very long trailer rather than a guided tour of features, cutting between story missions and open-world moments:
- A drug pickup for Vice City legend Boobie Ike turns into a police raid after someone betrays the deal.
- Jason and Lucia meet their boss and main mission giver, Brian Heder, and his wife Lori at a rooftop bar.
- Lucia drives the getaway for bank robber Raul Bautista while Jason fires at police cars and helicopters from the back seat, with four wanted stars; after a car swap, she burns the first one with a Molotov.
- A security job for a mogul named Andrés, at the opening of media company Megamundo's first US headquarters, turns into a hostage situation in a skyscraper.
Between missions, Game Informer spotted fishing, kayaking, base jumping, scuba diving, jet skis, airboats and backyard wrestling, plus dirt bike, night street and stock car races.
Switching between Jason and Lucia
Game Informer reports that you can switch between the two leads: in the raid, you play Jason while an AI-controlled Lucia gives covering fire. It also saw a weapon wheel, a minimal interface, a mini-map that seems to draw buildings in 3D, and a gunfight in slow motion, though it is unclear whether that is a gameplay feature or a cinematic effect.
What is confirmed, and what is not
Rockstar has confirmed the November 19, 2026 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the two leads and their circle, and the six regions. Until launch, our interactive map of Leonida is a community reconstruction by the GTA VI Mapping Community, not an official map.
What Rockstar has not published is a feature list. Game Informer noted after the Extended Look that the studio "has yet to plainly detail the game's features", so details such as how switching works outside missions remain unconfirmed. No Trailer 3 has been announced, and neither has a PC version or an online mode.
What comes next
Game Informer's cover story arrives in its digital issue on September 29: 14 pages and 12 new screenshots, built on interviews with several Rockstar lead designers. It covers features not shared before, such as weather systems that simulate Florida's less sunny side, wildlife on land, in the air and at sea, and Rockstar's research into Miami and Florida. Print copies follow in the coming weeks. After that, the next date is launch day: follow the days left on our GTA 6 countdown.
Three videos in, Rockstar has shown far more of its story and its state than of the systems underneath.
