GTA 6 is set in Leonida, Rockstar's fictional take on Florida, and Rockstar has officially named six of its regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. It has not yet published a full map of the state or an official size, but Rockstar North's Rob Nelson has compared its cities with GTA 5's.
The six regions Rockstar has named
Rockstar presented the six regions on its GTA VI site alongside Trailer 2, on May 6, 2025, each with its own page in the "Only in Leonida" section.
Vice City
"Everything in Excess." Rockstar calls the city "the sun and fun capital of America" and points to four spots: Ocean Beach, with its pastel art deco hotels and white sand; Little Cuba and its panaderías; the Tisha-Wocka flea market and its bootleg brands; and the VC Port, "the cruise ship capital of the world".
Leonida Keys
"Gateway to Paradise." A tropical archipelago where "the dress code is casual, the bars are loaded", on the doorstep of "some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in all of America". Rockstar's screenshots show a seaplane, a road bridge between two islands and scuba divers beside a sea turtle.
Grassrivers
"Welcome to the Wetlands." A primordial expanse of mangroves where the gators are the famous attraction, but far from the deadliest predators. Rockstar's screenshots show airboats and alligators, and one has the Vice City skyline in the distance.
Port Gellhorn
"Live Hard." This is "Leonida's forgotten coast": cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls in a once-popular holiday spot, where a new economy runs on "malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks".
Ambrosia
"Keeping Leonida Sweet." In the heart of the state, old-school values still rule: the Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs, "while the local biker gang provides almost everything else".
Mount Kalaga
"Wild, Wild Country." A national landmark against the state's northern border, with "prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails" and backwoods home to "hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals". Rockstar's captions call it Mount Kalaga National Park.
Other places Rockstar has named
The Ultimate Edition's extras name a few more places, mostly without saying which region they are in:
- Southside Vice City, where a gang's compound can be raided.
- Watson Bay, home of the Paradise Garage.
- Lake Leonida, where a mod shop specialises in off-road builds.
- Stockyard, with a streetwear store and a tattoo parlour.
- Gambit Bay, a fishing spot, and Washington Beach, where a boat is docked.
Lucia's backstory adds the Leonida Penitentiary, and Rockstar gives the state a nickname: the Goodtime State.
How Leonida mirrors Florida
Rockstar sums up its setting as "the darkest side of the sunniest place in America" and calls Leonida "the sunshine state", Florida's own nickname, but its pages do not name the real places behind each region. Its own descriptions make the parallels plain enough: pastel art deco hotels on Ocean Beach, mangrove wetlands full of gators, a tropical archipelago linked by road bridges.
Game Informer's Marcus Stewart, a lifelong Floridian, found Vice City "spot-on" in the August 27 Extended Look, down to Miami's "congested, twisting highway roads". His cover story, out digitally on September 29, covers Rockstar's research into Miami and Florida, its weather systems and Leonida's wildlife.
Size: what Rob Nelson said, and what is still unknown
Rockstar has not given Leonida's size on its site or its Newswire; its Ultimate Edition page only speaks of a "massive world". The only figures come from Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, who told the French magazine Trois Couleurs on August 27, 2026 that "Vice City is twice the size as Los Santos", GTA 5's city, and that the built-up towns outside the city are "11 times the size of GTAV in terms of the little towns you can come across". Neither is an area in square miles: treat any other figure, or any overall comparison with GTA 5's map, as unconfirmed.
There is no official map online either. The only one announced is printed on the back of a souvenir poster that, Rockstar says, gives "a full view of the Leonida map". It comes in The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a collector's box sold without the game that arrives on November 19.
Beyond Mount Kalaga's northern border, Ambrosia's central spot and Port Gellhorn's coast, Rockstar has not said where the regions lie or how far apart they are. As for opening up the map, Nelson told Trois Couleurs that "you start way down here in the Keys for the first part of the game", at Jason's house from Trailer 2, "and then the game just opens and you can go anywhere, anytime".
Our Leonida map places more than 2,700 locations on a drawing by the GTA VI Mapping Community, published by gtadb.org under a CC BY 4.0 licence. It is a community reconstruction, not an official map: its authors drew it from Rockstar's trailers and, by their own account, from leaked material, so names, borders and distances may not match the game. We will switch it to the game's own map when GTA 6 launches.
GTA 6 comes out on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our release date guide covers editions and pre-load, and the GTA 6 hub counts down the days. Until then, Rockstar's six regions are the only part of the map you can rely on.
