GTA 6 has two playable leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Around them, Rockstar's official site profiles seven more characters: Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Bae-Luxe and Roxy (the rap duo Real Dimez) and Raul Bautista. Here is what Rockstar says about each, and what we know about switching between the leads.
Jason and Lucia, the two leads
Rockstar's synopsis: when an easy score goes wrong, Jason and Lucia are pulled into a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida, forced to rely on each other more than ever to make it out alive.
Jason Duval
Jason was raised among grifters and crooks. He joined the Army to leave his troubled teens behind, then drifted to the Keys, where he works for local drug runners. He wants an easy life, but things keep getting harder, and meeting Lucia "could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him."
Lucia Caminos
Lucia learned to fight from her father almost as soon as she could walk. Fighting for her family put her in the Leonida Penitentiary, and only "sheer luck" got her out. She wants the good life her mother has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City, and a life with Jason could be her way out. In Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025), Game Informer notes, Jason picks her up from prison.
How switching between Jason and Lucia works
Rockstar calls GTA VI a single-player experience and says Jason and Lucia's story unfolds in chapters, but it has not detailed how switching works. The best evidence is An Extended Look, the gameplay video Rockstar released on August 27, 2026. According to Game Informer, "you can switch between controlling both characters", and the missions split roles between them: Jason shoots from cover while an AI-controlled Lucia gives covering fire, Lucia drives a getaway while Jason fires from the back seat, and in a skyscraper hostage crisis the two fight several floors apart.
Still unannounced: whether you can swap freely in the open world or only at set moments.
Brian Heder and Cal Hampton, Jason's circle
Brian is "a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys." He still moves product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori, and lets Jason live rent-free at one of his properties, as long as Jason helps with local shakedowns. In the Extended Look, Game Informer describes Brian as the couple's boss and main mission giver.
Cal, Jason's friend and a fellow associate of Brian's, asks: "What if everything on the internet was true?" He feels safest at home, snooping on Coast Guard communications with a few beers and private browser tabs open. Rockstar sums him up as "at the low tide of America and happy there."
Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest and Real Dimez
Boobie is a local Vice City legend who turned his time in the streets into a legitimate empire: real estate, a strip club and a recording studio. He is "all smiles until it's time to talk business", and he is most invested in his partnership with Dre'Quan in Only Raw Records. Per Game Informer, the Extended Look's first mission, a drug pickup on Boobie's behalf, goes wrong when someone close to the deal betrays the pair to the police.
Dre'Quan "was always more of a hustler than a gangster": even when he was dealing on the streets, music was the goal. Having signed Real Dimez, he now has his sights on the Vice City scene.
Real Dimez are Bae-Luxe and Roxy, friends since high school, who turned shaking down local dealers into cash with rap tracks and a relentless social media presence. After an early hit with local rapper DWNPLY and five years of trouble, they are now signed to Only Raw Records, hoping lightning strikes twice.
Raul Bautista and other named characters
Raul is a seasoned bank robber, all "confidence, charm, and cunning", always hunting for talent ready to take big risks. His recklessness raises the stakes with every score, and sooner or later his crew will have to "double down or pull their chips from the table." In the Extended Look, Game Informer reports, Jason and Lucia drive his getaway car in what seems to be their first meeting.
Official material also names Wyman, an "eccentric collector and local fixer" whose Ultimate Edition commission sends you after abandoned classic cars. Game Informer identifies Andrés, a wealthy mogul the pair guard at the opening of the first American headquarters of Megamundo, a Spanish-language media company, until armed men storm the building. Rockstar has not said who plays or voices any of these characters.
