WoW Forever brings back the library books of Season of Discovery. Any character can pick up a book found in the world and hand it to its faction's librarian, in Stormwind City or in Undercity. Each book is a quest of its own, and the books add up: a necklace at 10, a ring at 20 and a third reward at 25.
The game's files hold 40 books. As of October 7, the four guides we compared agree on where to find 37 of them; for the last three, they disagree or have not found the book in Forever. Their places come largely from Season of Discovery, where the same books stood, and players have confirmed most of the low-level ones in the beta, which stops at level 30.
How the library books work
- Every class can pick up every book, at any level: in the game's files, none of the 40 is limited to a class.
- Each book is handed in on its own, one at a time, and the count carries over: after the first 10, ten more reach 20.
- Each book gives experience and silver. Mages also get a Comprehension Charm, an item only Mages can use.
- Rumi of Gnomeregan: The Collected Works lies in two places, Westfall and Loch Modan, but it is one book and counts once.
The rewards
Each step lets you choose one item. Their pages give the stats as the game does.
Crest of Elucidation and Researcher's Night Light need level 40 to be equipped.

- Alliance: Garion Wendell, in the mage tower of Stormwind's mage quarter, at 37.6, 80.8 (Stormwind City).
- Horde: Owen Thadd, in Undercity's magic quarter, at 73.4, 33.0 (Undercity).

The three books still disputed
- Ataeric: On Arcane Curiosities: in Season of Discovery it lay in The Sepulcher, in Silverpine Forest. ForeverChanges did not find it there in Forever on October 4, and 60.tools lists the spot as unconfirmed.
- The Liminal and the Arcane: it lay in Feralas, behind Season of Discovery's Nightmare portal, which Forever does not have. ForeverChanges counts it out.
- Magma or Lava?: Method.gg and Warcraft Tavern place it in Blackrock Mountain, near the entrance to Blackrock Depths, without entering the dungeon; ForeverChanges had not placed it on October 4.
Two smaller differences: Method.gg gives 26.6, 14.5 for Scourge: Undead Menace or Misunderstood?, where two guides say 31.2, 21.0, and Warcraft Tavern puts Stonewrought Design inside Blackrock Depths.
The caged book, for Mages only
A Luddite's Guide to Caring for Your Demonic Pet lies in a cage: Fallow Sanctuary, Swamp of Sorrows. The cage opens with a Rusted Cage Key, which only Mages can use according to the game's files, and which drops from monsters of the swamp. The other classes reach the 25-book reward with the other books.
