Most Minecraft codes are redeemed at minecraft.net/redeem: enter the 25-character code, sign in with the Microsoft account you play on, and confirm. That page takes codes for Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC, Minecoins, Realms Plus, capes and Character Creator items; a code sold for a console is redeemed in that console's store instead: xbox.com/redeem for Xbox, Redeem Code in the PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop on Switch.
Here is where each code goes, the steps on each platform, and what to do when a code is refused, as of October 6, 2026.

Redeem a code on minecraft.net, step by step
- Find your code: on the back of a card, under the silver scratch-off strip; in the shop's confirmation email or your order history for a digital purchase; in the message or email of whoever gave it to you.
- Go to minecraft.net/redeem in a web browser and enter the code, five groups of five characters.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account you want to play on, or create one for free.
- Check what the code unlocks, then confirm.
What you get then depends on the code:
- The game: download the Minecraft Launcher from minecraft.net and sign in with the same account. The PC code unlocks both editions: Java on Windows, macOS or Linux, and Bedrock on Windows.
- Minecoins: start Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, open the Marketplace and check your balance; restart the game if it hasn't changed.
- A cape or an item: open the Dressing Room in Bedrock Edition. A cape also reaches Java once you claim it in Bedrock, as our guide to every Minecraft cape explains.
A gift sent by email has a Redeem your gift button that fills in the code for you. Your Microsoft account's own redeem page, account.microsoft.com/billing/redeem, takes game and Minecoins codes too.
On Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and phones
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Xbox codes, for the game or for add-ons, are redeemed at xbox.com/redeem, on your Microsoft account's redeem page, or in the Store on the console. Minecoins, capes and items redeemed on minecraft.net land on the same Microsoft account, so they appear on your Xbox when you sign in.
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. PlayStation Store vouchers have 12 digits and must come from the same country or region as your account:
- PS5: open the PlayStation Store, press the triangle button, then select … (More) and Redeem Code.
- PS4: in the PlayStation Store, select Redeem Codes at the bottom of the sidebar.
- On a computer or phone: on store.playstation.com or in the PlayStation App, select your profile or the menu, then Redeem Code.
For a cape or a Character Creator item, use minecraft.net/redeem instead, then sign in to your Microsoft account in Minecraft on your PlayStation.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Redeem eShop codes in Nintendo eShop on the console, or at ec.nintendo.com/redeem. From October 27, the day Minecraft reaches Switch 2, Minecoins bought on a Nintendo console go to a Nintendo Wallet that only works on Nintendo consoles. The Minecoins you own before that date move to a Legacy Wallet that keeps working on every platform, and are spent first (see our Minecraft on Switch 2 article).
Phones and tablets. Codes from minecraft.net are redeemed on the website. Mojang says its promotional codes are "redeemable on Xbox and PC, but playable across all platforms": redeem them on a computer, then sign in to the same Microsoft account in Minecraft on your phone or tablet.
Realms codes
A Realms Plus card is redeemed at minecraft.net/redeem with your Microsoft account. You then sign in to Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on an Xbox or a Windows PC to activate your Realm, which players on other platforms can join once it is running. minecraft.net/redeem lists no card for Java Edition Realms.
Minecraft Dungeons and Dungeons II codes
A Minecraft Dungeons card for the PC version is redeemed at minecraft.net/redeem; you then install the game from the Minecraft Launcher, signed in with the same account. Console versions are redeemed in the console's store.
For Minecraft Dungeons II, the pre-order bonus code in a boxed copy goes to your console's store, as Mojang lists: xbox.com/redeem on Xbox, ec.nintendo.com/redeem on Nintendo, and Redeem Code in your PlayStation Store profile. Then sign in to Dungeons II with your Microsoft account so the bonus items reach your Collectibles. Promotional codes for Dungeons II items follow their own instructions and often can't be redeemed in a store. The game's capes and the Aurora Cape, which is for Minecraft itself, are covered in our Minecraft Dungeons II guide and our capes guide.
When a code doesn't work
Mojang's checklist, in order:
- Retype the code exactly as written: O and 0, I and 1 are easy to mix up.
- Check that it hasn't been used: a code works once. If you're told it was already redeemed, look at the order history of your other Microsoft accounts.
- Check the account: sign in with the one you play on.
- Check the region: a Minecraft gift card only works in the country where it was bought, and a PlayStation voucher in the region of your account.
- Ask the shop if a gift card wasn't activated at the till.
- Clear your browser data or try another browser; during an outage, try again later.
Three special cases:
- Two Minecoins cards of the same value in a row can give a "you already own this product" error: open the Marketplace in the game after the first one, then redeem the second.
- A child account under 9 can't redeem codes for promotional items or downloadable content. The family organizer sets its age rating to 10 or older, in Microsoft Family Safety or the Xbox Family Settings app.
- A Java Edition-only card bought before December 1, 2020 goes through Minecraft Player Care.
If the code still fails, contact Minecraft support with your proof of purchase.
Free codes and code lists
A list of "free Minecraft codes" or a code generator can't give you a working code: each one works once, and those posted publicly are used up. The free rewards that are real come from Mojang's own promotions, such as the Aurora Cape until October 14, and partner codes come with a purchase: LEGO sets, or Kellogg's cereal for Character Creator items to redeem by October 31.
Once your game is set up, our seed map, crafting recipes and villager trades are there for your first world.
