Roblox is free to download, from two kinds of places only: roblox.com/download on a Windows PC or a Mac, and the device's own store everywhere else, from the App Store and Google Play to the PlayStation Store. Those are the sources Roblox lists on its download page; a "Roblox" file from any other site, such as an APK or a "mod", is not Roblox's.
Playing takes a free Roblox account, the same on every device. Below: where to get the app on each device, what Roblox says each one needs, how to install it step by step, and what to do when it won't open.

Linux isn't supported. On a computer, Roblox asks for little: a processor from 2005 or later at 1.6 GHz, 1 GB of memory, 300 MB of free space, DirectX 10 graphics on Windows and a 4 to 8 Mb/s connection.
Install Roblox on a Windows PC or a Mac
- Sign in on roblox.com, or create a free account there: a birthday, a username and a password.
- Open roblox.com/download and download the app, or press the green Play button on any game: Roblox offers to install itself the first time.
- Open the file you downloaded. On Windows it is called RobloxPlayerInstaller.exe and comes from Roblox's own servers.
- Follow the steps on screen. Roblox opens when it is done, and every Play button on the site opens it from then on.
On Windows, the Microsoft Store app is just as official: on September 12, 2025, Roblox replaced its old Store app with a new one built for Windows, on the Microsoft Store and in the Xbox app for PC.
On a phone, tablet or Chromebook
Open the device's store, search for Roblox, check that the publisher is Roblox Corporation, then install it and sign in. On a Chromebook, turn on Google Play in the settings first: Roblox runs there as its Android app. Roblox has also been on Samsung's Galaxy Store since October 15, 2025.
- Xbox: open the Microsoft Store on the console, search for Roblox and choose Get.
- PlayStation 4 or 5: in the PlayStation Store, find Roblox, select Add to Library, start it from the Game Library, then sign in with Quick Login from your phone or computer. Roblox on PlayStation is rated T for Teen, for 13 and older, and a child account can only buy something once a parent has set spending limits.
- Meta Quest 2, Pro or 3: update the headset to Quest software v57 or later, install Roblox from the Quest Store and sign in with Quick Log In from your phone or computer. You can't create an account or type a password on the headset. Roblox on Quest is for players 10 and older.
Download Roblox safely
- Roblox is free. No site should charge for the download, and no download gives free Robux: every "Robux generator" is a scam, as our article on free Robux scams explains.
- Only the official stores. "Mod" versions, APK files from other sites and cheat tools ("executors") are not Roblox: they can steal an account or install malware, and cheating breaks Roblox's rules.
- Never type your password anywhere but roblox.com and the Roblox app.
- For parents: since June 2026, every player under 16 gets an account matched to their age, Roblox Kids from 5 to 8 and Roblox Select from 9 to 15, and chat requires an age check. Our Roblox parental controls guide shows how to link a parent account and set limits.
Roblox won't install or open?
- Check that Roblox itself isn't down: our Roblox server status shows whether Roblox is having problems right now.
- Check the device against the table above: an older system, such as Windows 8.1 or Android 7, can no longer install Roblox.
- Free up some space and restart the device.
- Uninstall Roblox, then download it again from an official source.
What to play first
Once Roblox is installed, the most played Roblox games show where most players are right now, and our Roblox game codes give free items in many of them.
