Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 came out on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, on the Nintendo eShop and in stores. It uses Vibrant Visuals as its default look, and every edition includes the Super Mario Mash-Up pack, updated for those graphics. Players who own the digital version for the first Switch can upgrade for free until the end of January 2027.
What’s new on Switch 2
- Vibrant Visuals by default: Mojang describes it as "enhanced lighting, shadow effects, and more". It is not used in split-screen, nor in some Marketplace worlds and content, which keep the classic look.
- The Super Mario Mash-Up pack, which only Nintendo’s versions of Minecraft have, is in every edition, updated for Vibrant Visuals.
Upgrading from the Switch version
If you own the digital version of Minecraft for the first Nintendo Switch, the digital Standard Edition for Switch 2 is free on the Nintendo eShop until the end of January 2027, except in Japan (100 yen), Taiwan (NT$30) and Thailand (25 baht). The same players get the Deluxe Collection and the Ultimate Collection at a discount. Mojang has announced this offer for the digital version only.
Owners of the physical version get an offer too: according to Nintendo, every player who launches Minecraft for Nintendo Switch on a Switch 2 from October 27, 2026, at 9 AM Pacific time (16:00 UTC), until the end of January 2027 gets an in-game message inviting them to upgrade to the digital Ultimate Collection at a discount.
