To redeem a Fortnite V-Bucks card, go to fortnite.com/vbuckscard, sign in to your Epic Games account, click Get Started, type the PIN from the back of the card and pick the device you play on. On PC, mobile or Nintendo Switch, the V-Bucks go straight to your account; on PlayStation and Xbox, you get a second code to enter with Sony or Microsoft.
V-Bucks card or Fortnite gift card?
Epic is phasing out V-Bucks cards in favor of Fortnite gift cards, which are rolling out region by region. They are redeemed in different places:
- A V-Bucks card, physical or digital, gives a set amount of V-Bucks, usable only in Fortnite. Redeem it at fortnite.com/vbuckscard.
- A Fortnite gift card buys V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew and packs, but also Epic Games Store games and add-ons, and Fab content. Redeem it at epicgames.com/redeem.
How to redeem a V-Bucks card
You need an Epic Games account: if you have played Fortnite, you have one. Keep the receipt, as Epic may need it to help you.
- Go to fortnite.com/vbuckscard and log in. Check that the Display Name under Account Information matches your in-game name.
- Click Get Started.
- Scratch the back of the card carefully, type the PIN in the Enter Your code (PIN) box without dashes, and click Next.
- Choose the device you play Fortnite on and click Next. Only devices linked to your signed-in account appear: if yours is missing, check the account.
- On the Confirm Your Details screen, check the account, device and new balance, then click Confirm.
On PC, mobile or Switch, launch Fortnite and the V-Bucks are there.
PlayStation and Xbox: a second code
For PlayStation, the site also asks for your PlayStation account's region. After you confirm, it generates a 12- or 25-character code, also sent by email, and directs you to sign in with Sony or Microsoft: use the account linked to your Epic account, then enter the code. Lost it? A copy is in your Epic account's email and on its transaction history page.
Epic's Fortnite Shared Wallet covers PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mobile and cloud gaming services: V-Bucks from a card redeemed on one of them can be spent on all the others. The exception is Nintendo: V-Bucks received on a Nintendo device by redeeming a card can only be used on Nintendo devices.
The card's full value is deducted at redemption and tied to one account for the device you select. A wallet can't hold more than 200,000 V-Bucks: past that, spend some before adding more.
When the code doesn't work
Epic's error messages point to the fix:
- "That code doesn't look valid": check for a typo. If the code is right and still refused, the card wasn't properly activated at checkout: go back to the store to have it activated.
- Territory restrictions: a card with a country's flag in its upper left corner only works with an Epic or PlayStation Network account from that country. That covers cards sold in 14 countries, including the UK, Ireland, Australia, France and Spain: one bought in France can't be redeemed on PC or PlayStation by an account registered in Canada.
- "Already been redeemed by another account", or a card redeemed on the wrong account: V-Bucks can't be moved between accounts, but Epic says it may be able to help. Contact it at fortnite.com/support with your receipt.
- "Too many redemption requests": Epic limits rapid attempts to prevent automated fraud. Try again later.
The rules, and how to spot a fake offer
A V-Bucks card has no fees and no expiration date. Its V-Bucks only work in Fortnite, aren't money and can't be withdrawn. Epic doesn't refund V-Bucks (it suggests gifting Shop items to friends instead) and doesn't replace a card that is lost, stolen or used without permission.
These rules also expose "free V-Bucks" offers:
- Two addresses only: Epic's cards are redeemed at fortnite.com/vbuckscard and epicgames.com/redeem. A site or message asking for your PIN anywhere else isn't redeeming anything for you.
- Nobody can send you V-Bucks: they can't be transferred between accounts. A friend can gift you Shop items, not V-Bucks.
- A code pays out once, to the first account that redeems it: one posted online goes to whoever types it first, and a PIN you show someone can be used before you. Never share it, or a photo of the card.
- Buy from the stores Epic lists in 16 countries, such as Best Buy, GameStop, Target or Walmart in the US and Tesco or Smyths Toys in the UK. Epic warns they will gradually switch to Fortnite gift cards.
