Fortnite Battle Royale has reached the halfway point of Chapter 7 Season 4, Fortnite Override. The season launched on August 20, 2026, and its Battle Pass ends on November 1 (Eastern Time), according to Epic. Here is what is live on September 26, what the latest update added and what is confirmed for the weeks ahead.
A season built on hacked rules
Override picks up after Unstable, the short story moment that closed Season 3 on August 15. During it, an attempt to stabilize the fractured Zero Point was hijacked by the villain Geno and the Dark Voyager: the Zero Point vanished, and a mysterious game cartridge was left in its place.
What followed is a season about video games, with gaming legends joining the fight. Three new locations have appeared on the map: the ancient Stone Sanctum and its secrets, Green Hill Zone and its loops built for speed, and Reality's Reign, where the Island's pipes and power cables lead. Two updates have landed since launch, v42.10 on September 3 and v42.20 on September 17.
Overrides, hacks and Sprites
The headline mechanic is the Override Console. Consoles appear in every match, and the first player to reach one rewrites the rules for the entire server, with their name displayed around the console base. Effects range from faster sprinting and extra XP to a one-time respawn, stronger headshots and better odds of Epic or Legendary loot. Rare and Mythic Squad Overrides only benefit the first squad to claim them, and claiming one reveals that squad's location on the map.
Three other systems lean into the theme:
- Lobby Hacks: codes found online, entered in a new Admin Panel in the lobby, grant XP, Sprite Dust and even rare Sprite variants.
- Loot Hacks: Sprite Dust lets you customize the bonus items that can drop from your Chests.
- Cheat Codes: tucked into POIs and sprayed on walls, they free a Sprite ally when entered.
A new generation of Sprites includes Sonic, Tails, Shadow and a returning Klombo, while Season 3's collection lives on in Sprite Garden, a separate mode where you can play with your Sprites and show them to friends. New loot includes Sonic's Power Sneakers, Mega Man's Mega Buster, an automatic 8-Bit Shotgun, the Tetris Rift, a 1-Up Token that brings you back with your full inventory, and Midas' Masterpiece, a golden pistol that can eliminate with a single headshot.
The v42.20 update added the Kingdom Key and Sea Salt Ice Cream from KINGDOM HEARTS, Rebecca's Guns from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, new Overrides such as a Dynamic Storm that closes faster as fewer players remain, and Tetris Towers to climb mid-match. It also merged NA-West, NA-Central and NA-East into a single North American region with selectable subregions.
