Which AION 2 class should you main? Four tier lists came out around the Global launch, each built a different way: KeenGamer ranks a class as a main across all content, Skycoach ranks PvE from damage logs and PvP from leaderboards, Metabot rates each class's kit mode by mode, and PlayHub splits PvE from PvP. They agree more than they disagree. Here is where, why they differ, and how to pick, with NC's own roles; every class has its skills, Stigmas and Daevanion boards in our class guide.

The short answer

  • First main, melee: Gladiator. It sits at or near the top of three of the four lists, Metabot and PlayHub both name it the class for beginners, and Skycoach recommends it for solo play.
  • First main, ranged: Ranger, top tier for KeenGamer and in PlayHub's PvE, and high on most other lists.
  • Most damage, and PvP: Assassin, top tier in PvP on three lists and among the top of Skycoach's damage logs, but the hardest to play well. Sorcerer brings the ranged burst, and loses damage when it has to move.
  • Wanted in every group: Templar, the only pure tank, and Cleric, the only dedicated healer, as Metabot notes. Chanter trades damage for party-wide buffs.
  • The most divisive: Spiritmaster, among the best for solo play on Metabot's list, but last on KeenGamer's and in PlayHub's PvE.

Class by class

Class NC's role Where the lists agree Where they split
Gladiator Melee damage, can off-tank Near the top overall; the beginner and solo pick Lower half of Skycoach's damage logs
Ranger Ranged physical damage Strong and safe in PvE on every list Bottom tier of Skycoach's PvP ranking
Assassin Melee burst, stealth Top tier in PvP on three lists; the highest peak damage Bottom tier in Metabot's group PvE
Sorcerer Ranged magic burst High damage; top tier in PvP for Metabot Lower in PlayHub's PvE
Templar Main tank Top tier for group PvE (Metabot) and PvP (PlayHub) Last in Skycoach's damage logs, by design
Cleric Main healer Top tier for group PvE (Metabot) and PvP (PlayHub) Last in Skycoach's damage logs, by design
Chanter Support, secondary healer Valued in organized groups Bottom tier in PvP for Skycoach and Metabot
Spiritmaster Magic damage with summoned spirits Among the best solo (Metabot); good damage on Skycoach's logs Last overall (KeenGamer) and in PlayHub's PvE

Why the lists disagree

They measure different things. A list built on damage, like Skycoach's PvE ranking from damage logs, puts the Templar and the Cleric last, because their job is to tank and to heal; a list of what groups need, like Metabot's, puts them first. KeenGamer ranks each class as a main across all content, and PlayHub keeps PvE and PvP apart.

Metabot adds that the eight classes grow their base stats the same way: the differences come from skills, passives and weapons. And the lists are young. They date from September 28 to October 5, written during Advanced Access and launch week, and Skycoach notes that balance patches come almost every week.

How to choose

  • To level alone fast: Gladiator, which hits several enemies at once, or Spiritmaster, whose spirits fight beside it.
  • To be invited to every dungeon: Templar or Cleric; Chanter if you want to support a group without healing full time.
  • For PvP: Assassin for burst, Templar and Cleric for organized fights.
  • To stay safe at range: Ranger; Sorcerer for more damage, and more risk.
  • Your faction does not limit your class: all eight are open to Elyos and Asmodians, and to both genders.

PlayHub puts it plainly: there are no unplayable classes, and Skycoach advises choosing by playstyle. Our overview of the eight classes gives each one's weapon and NC's own description, and the class guide each one's skills.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best class in AION 2 for beginners?

The Gladiator. Metabot and PlayHub both name it the class for beginners: it fights up close with simple skills and heals itself as it hits. Skycoach picks it for solo players, and the Templar for beginners. For a first main at range, the lists point to the Ranger, the safest ranged class according to KeenGamer.

Which AION 2 class is best for PvP?

The Assassin is in the top PvP tier on three of the four lists (Skycoach, Metabot and PlayHub), but it is hard to play well. Skycoach's PvP list also puts the Gladiator at the top, Metabot adds the Sorcerer, and PlayHub the Templar and the Cleric, which decide organized group fights.

Which AION 2 class does the most damage?

The Assassin and the Sorcerer top Skycoach's PvE ranking, built from damage logs, and PlayHub says the Assassin has the best burst damage in the game. Both pay for it: the Assassin needs precise positioning and timing, and the Sorcerer loses damage in fights where it has to keep moving.

Is the Spiritmaster a bad class in AION 2?

No. Metabot ranks it with the Gladiator as one of the two best classes for solo play, and Skycoach's damage logs put it in A tier. KeenGamer ranks it last because its place in the Global endgame is the hardest to judge, and it is last in PlayHub's PvE. It is comfortable to level alone; its endgame place is the least settled.

Which AION 2 class is best for groups and dungeons?

The Templar and the Cleric: Metabot puts the only pure tank and the only pure healer, with the Chanter, in its top tier for group PvE. Metabot calls the Chanter the best support, and KeenGamer says it gets much stronger in an organized party.

Will the AION 2 tier lists change?

Yes. The four lists date from September 28 to October 5, 2026, written during Advanced Access and launch week, and Skycoach notes that balance patches come almost every week. Treat them as a starting point and pick a class you enjoy: PlayHub says there are no unplayable classes.
