Roblox is celebrating 20 years with a busy September: a developers conference packed with announcements, tighter rules for younger players and two recent hits on top of its live player chart.
What Roblox announced at RDC 2026
The Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) ran in San Jose from September 10 to 12. The headline items:
- Browser play. By the end of 2026, games will open in Chrome from their page, with no install. Other browsers will follow.
- Offline play. An offline solo mode alongside multiplayer, due by mid-2027, with early access "coming soon".
- Standalone apps. Under a vision called Roblox Everywhere, creators will "soon" be able to ship games as separate apps on mobile, PC and consoles.
- Roblox Wallet. Payouts in US dollars every business day, from later this year for eligible US-based independent creators aged 18 and over, followed by a Roblox Card in 2027.
- Pre-roll ads. Short, skippable video ads while a game loads, except for Roblox Plus subscribers.
Roblox also cited 123 million daily users on average last quarter and about $1.7 billion paid to creators over 12 months through its Developer Exchange (DevEx).
The games leading right now
Roblox's own "Most Popular" chart, which shows live concurrent player counts, read as follows around 18:30 UTC on September 26:
- +1 Speed Keyboard Escape: about 3.5 million players;
- Steal An Egg: about 1.8 million;
- Brookhaven RP: about 587,000, ahead of Murder Mystery 2, 99 Nights in the Forest and Blox Fruits, each above 300,000.
Steal An Egg, a pet game built around stealing other players' eggs, is the summer's breakout. It was pulled from Roblox on August 24 amid criticism of a treadmill that played a scrolling feed of short videos, before returning. Last year's giants have cooled: Steal a Brainrot stood near 276,000, and Grow a Garden, which passed 22 million players at its 2025 peak, near 35,000. In July, Roblox told investors that players were shifting from 2025's viral hits to new and evergreen games. Counts move by the hour, so treat this as a snapshot.
Safety and parental controls
Since January, chat has required a facial age check worldwide. Since early June, under-16s have age-based accounts with parental controls: Roblox Kids (5 to 8), with chat off by default and only games rated Minimal or Mild, and Roblox Select (9 to 15), capped at games rated Moderate. At 16, users move to a standard account.
On August 25, Roblox barred games from Kids and Select if they reward players for watching a feed that autoplays, loops or scrolls on its own. By the end of June, 57% of daily users had completed an age check. Legal pressure remains: on September 22, Tennessee's attorney general announced that a state court had refused to throw out the state's lawsuit accusing Roblox of misleading parents about safety.
What it means for players and creators
For players, one change already has a date: from September 30, YouTube videos leave game pages in favor of gameplay videos uploaded by creators.
For creators, several rules are moving. Discovery now measures engagement over 28 days and beyond, not just the first week. In November, the number of "highly engaged players" a game needs to reach Kids and Select audiences drops from 250 to 100. And since June 8, spending by age-checked US adults in eligible games converts at $0.54 per 100 earned Robux instead of $0.38.
Codes: how to spot expired ones
Codes come from each game's developers, are usually redeemed inside that game and often expire without warning. Copied lists keep dead codes for months, so check when a code was last verified and whether it traces back to the developer. On our Roblox codes page, a code only appears once it has been verified, with the date of the check.
Roblox's support pages add a clear warning: any offer of free Robux is a scam, and a password should only ever be typed on the Roblox login page.
Next dates: the anniversary event The Hunt: Roblox 20, which takes players through games from each year of the platform's history, ends on September 28; the threshold drops in November; and browser play is due by year-end. Our Roblox hub will follow all three.
