Fortnite is back on the App Store in Australia: what changes
Fortnite returned to Apple's App Store in Australia on October 22 after a Federal Court ruling: what it changes for iPhone players now, and in March 2027.
Fortnite is back on Apple's App Store in Australia since October 22, 2026. Epic announced it the day before, once the Federal Court of Australia had issued its remedies in Epic's case against Apple: Apple had broken Australian competition law, and it must let Fortnite back in. Australian players can install Fortnite on iPhone and iPad from the App Store again, for the first time since Apple removed it in August 2020, when Epic added its own way to pay inside the game.
What the court decided
Apple broke competition law: Justice Jonathan Beach found that Apple has "a substantial degree of power" over how apps are distributed and paid for on iOS, and that its conduct was likely to substantially lessen competition.
Fortnite back now: Apple must stop blocking Epic's developer account and let Fortnite, and Epic's other apps, back into the Australian App Store, as long as they follow the store's rules.
More changes in March 2027: according to Epic, other app stores on iPhone, apps downloaded straight from their developers, payment systems other than Apple's, links to buy outside an app, and no Apple fees on purchases made in another store.
Apple will appeal: Apple says it "respectfully disagree[s] with many findings in this case", will ask for the orders to be put on hold and will appeal, which could delay the March 2027 changes. Fortnite's return, ordered now, does not wait for them.
What it changes for you
On iPhone and iPad in Australia: search for Fortnite in the App Store and install it. Sign in with your Epic Games account: your Locker and your progress follow that account, as on every other platform.
Payments: the court's changes to how you can pay are due in March 2027, and Apple's appeal could move that date. Until then, Epic gives no other detail.
Elsewhere: this ruling is Australian; it changes nothing in other countries.
